This page is meant to introduce the concept of, and provide technical support information for the Heebee-jeebee TV Enhanced CD.

    TECHNICAL OVERVIEW

This CD release is "Enhanced", which means it is formatted to allow both CD Audio and multimedia data to be stored on a single disc. This type of compact disc is called an Enhanced CD, or simply 'ECD'.

Basically, if you bought a new computer in the last two years you should be able to use it to fully enjoy any Enhanced CD with no problems at all.

Apple Computer has set up an excellent web site to support Enhanced CDs. It will probably answer most of your questions about ECDs, and it provides links where up-to-the-minute support information can be found.

    WHAT YOU NEED

Our Enhanced CDs is compatible with most computers running the Windows operating systems. The enhanced portion of the CD is not compatible with Macintosh computers (although Macintosh computers should be able to see the files, and may be able to view the video/audio files independently with an MPEG viewer). Here are the specific requirements for PCs:
    Windows-based PC
Your computer must also have Windows Media Player or some other similar MPEG video player installed. If you don't have Windows Media Player installed, it is available from Microsoft's website free-of-charge at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/. Without this, you won't be able to view the full-motion video included on this enhanced CD.

    TROUBLESHOOTING - SYMPTOMS & SOLUTIONS

This section is set up in a "symptom-solution" model. Match your symptom to one of those described here, then try any/all of the solutions for that symptom to see if they fix the problem.

    Symptom 1: Can't see files

When you insert the Heebee-jeebee TV CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive, it does not even appear on your PC's File Manager. You cannot see the files, let alone run them. The disc may simply appear as an audio-only CD.

    Solution 1 for Symptom 1:

If this is happening to you, the problem is probably with your CD-ROM drive. Some CD-ROM drives (including several that were being manufactured up to 1998) may be incompatible with Enhanced Audio CDs in general.

If this is happening to you, the simplest fix to the problem is to check the CD out on a friend's computer!

We also suggest you try the following:

    1. Insert a regular CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive, and confirm that it appears as you would expect. Then, remove that CD-ROM and re-insert the ECD. This has worked for us in the past on a WindowsNT machine. We don't understand why - but it does work!
    2. If you have any other Enhanced CDs, confirm that you can use the CD-ROM part of them (there are lots of other Enhanced Audio CDs out there).

    3. Windows users: Make sure you have the latest CD-ROM drivers. Your CD-ROM manufacturer's website should allow you to download it online. You also may need to contact the manufacturer of the controller card that is connected to your CD-ROM drive (or the manufacturer of the CD-ROM mechanism inside the drive) and see if there is an update to the drivers. This update may involve getting a new controller chip installed in your CD-ROM to bring it up-to-date and make it compatible with today's Enhanced CDs. (To determine the make and model of your CD-ROM drive, reboot your machine. One of the first few startup screens should show this information for of all SCSI devices being mounted by your SCSI card. Otherwise, the manufacturer of your CD-ROM controller card should have a diagnostic utility that runs under Windows. This utility should be able to give you this information.)

Symptom 2: Pictures and Sound Out of Sync

The sound and pictures on "Heebee-jeebee Night in Canada", "Parry & Dodge" get out of sync. The sound doesn't seem to follow the pictures.

    Solution 1 for Symptom 2:

If this is happening to you, you may have other applications running while you're trying to watch Heebee-jeebee TV. Quit all other applications and then start Heebee-jeebee TV again. The multi-media portion of the enhanced CD requires a lot of CPU power, and if other programs are running, Heebee-jeebee TV won't be able to get the power it needs to run properly.

Symptom 3: Heebee-jeebee TV does not automatically start up

When you insert the Heebee-jeebee TV CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive, Heebee-jeebee TV does not automatically start.

    Solution 1 for Symptom 3:

Your PC's CD-ROM drive "Auto-insert Notification" setting is probably turned OFF. This is in the device properties of the CD-ROM drive. If this is turned off, it prevents your PC from running the "AUTORUN.INF" file which starts up the CD-ROM automatically.

Either, check this box ON, or if you don't want to do this, simply open the Heebee-jeebee TV.exe file (as highlighted below) on the CD. That is the starting point for the enhanced CD.
